CleanClip is built with a strict local-first, privacy-by-design architecture.
Core Rationale
CleanClip does not collect, transmit, sell, track, or share personal data. Clipboard text cleaning and clipboard history are processed entirely locally on your Mac. Clipboard history is stored only on your own device.
Zero Network Presence
CleanClip does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, cloud synchronization services, user accounts, or third-party tracking scripts. The application runs fully offline, ensuring your clipboard content never leaves your Mac.
Clipboard History & Storage
Only plain text clipboard content may be stored locally on your device, and only when the Clipboard History feature is enabled. Images, files, and rich formatting (style styles) are ignored to guarantee optimal performance and protect sensitive data.
Automatic filters are implemented to prevent saving common sensitive text formats (such as credit card numbers and obvious API keys). Please note that this sensitive-text detection is best-effort and may not catch everything.
User Controls
You have full control over the local clipboard database. Within the application settings, you can:
- Pause clipboard capture at any time.
- Clear the entire database history in one click.
- Delete individual clipboard history items.
- Configure automatic retention cleanup intervals.
- Disable the Clipboard History module entirely.
System Permissions
To further protect your security, CleanClip is designed to run without elevated system privileges. It does not require macOS Accessibility permissions, Screen Recording permissions, or Notification permissions to perform its core functions.
